Breaking barriers: A tale of love and courage

One of the most remarkable chapters in our history involves a formidable woman who ran the pub in the early 1900s. She went on to marry the first man of colour ever in Llanelli – a former slave from the West Indies. He settled here, and together they raised five children, creating a mixed-race family almost unheard of in West Wales at the time. This pioneering spirit of inclusivity and acceptance has always been at the heart of our pub.

"When the pub was first established - it broke down many social barriers of its time - a woman in charge as the landlord, a man of colour - an ex slave as her husband. It was a welcoming Inn, always a smile, a wash, shave and a haven for the weary drovers
